Despite the changeable weather over the last few weeks, our work crews have been doing a great job on the Greenwich Dune Trail project and the terrestrial section of the boardwalk will be completed soon. The next step will be to fabricate over 1000 posts that will be used on the floating section once it’s installed in the spring. Fabrication will take place in the Dalvay compound to reduce impact on the site at Greenwich and will take several weeks. Following the completion of the posts, crews will be moving materials to the pond and preparing for assemble of the floating boardwalk. The timing of the actual assembly will be depending on ice melting. Please remember that the trails at Greenwich are closed while this work is taking place, that heavy machinery is being used in the area and Parks Canada staff are working hard to complete the installation in a safe and timely manner so that the trails can be re-opened and visitors from far and wide can continue to enjoy it.
For those who would like to walk in the Greenwich area, the main parking lot and beach access are still open and visitors are welcome to walk along the beach.
Updates will be posted on the Parks Canada website and shared with the community of St. Peter’s as they become available. For any questions, please call 902-566-7050.
