The Eastern PEI Chamber of Commerce will host all-candidate forums in five electoral districts April 17 and 18th.
“We believe it is a vital component of the democratic process to hear local candidates on issues of importance to the communities we represent,” says Chamber Vice-President Tara Burke. This marks the second election during which the Eastern Chamber will organize district forums. “In 2015 we quickly realized the public was very enthusiastic to have all local candidates together at once offering their vision. We believe this opportunity is even more important in advance of the April 23 general election,” Burke says.
All forums begin at 7pm with the schedule as follows:
District 1-Souris Legion Wednesday April 17th
District 2- Vernon River Hall April 17th
District 4-Belfast School for Wednesday April 17th
District 7- St. Peter’s Complex Wednesday April 17th
District 3-Montague High, Thursday April 18th
As was the practice in 2015, all questions will be directed to candidates by an independent moderator. Questions from the public are encouraged and can be forwarded directly to either Chamber Executive Director Lori MacGregor firstname.lastname@example.org or board member Paul MacNeill email@example.com
“The Eastern Chamber takes its role in helping to grow our community very seriously. We believe there is no more important mandate than to help residents educate themselves prior to casting a ballot. We are very proud to provide this opportunity,” Burke said.
